NHTSA campaign 15V790000 · Part 573 safety recall report

VT Hackney, Inc.: Service Brakes, Air › Disc › Caliper

VT Hackney, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 24, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 6. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

VT Hackney, Inc. (VT Hackney) is recalling certain model year 2015 Kidron Refrigerated Trailers manufactured April 28, 2015, to April 30, 2015 and equipped with certain Meritor EX225L2 or EX225L+ axles. The affected axle assemblies have caliper bolts that may not have been properly tightened, allowing the caliper mounting bolts to back out and the caliper to detach from the axle flange.

The risk

If the caliper detaches from the axle flange, braking performance would be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

VT Hackney will notify owners, and their dealers will inspect the caliper bolts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 22, 2015. Owners may contact VT Hackney customer service at 1-800-763-0700.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V790000.
