NHTSA campaign 15V774000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company: Service Brakes, Air › Disc › Caliper

Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 19, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 10. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Utility Trailer Manufacturing Company (Utility Trailer) is recalling certain model year 2015 Refrigerated Van trailers, model VS2RA, manufactured on December 16, 2013, and equipped with certain Meritor EX225L2, EX225L+, or Bendix ADB22X axles. The affected axle assemblies have caliper bolts that may not have been properly tightened, allowing the caliper mounting bolts to back out and the caliper to detach from the axle flange.

The risk

If the caliper detaches from the axle flange, braking performance would be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Utility Trailer has notified the owners, and dealers will inspect the caliper bolts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on November 4, 2015. Owners may contact Utility Trailer customer service at 1-818-965-1541, or Meritor customer service at 1-866-668-7221. Utility Trailer's number for this recall is 15E083.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V774000.
