NHTSA campaign 15V760000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Pierce Manufacturing: Equipment

Pierce Manufacturing reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 16, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 186. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Pierce Manufacturing (Pierce) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Arrow XT, Quantum, Velocity, Impel, and Saber fire-fighting vehicles manufactured June 19, 2013, to July 31, 2014. The affected vehicles have fire hose water pressure regulators that may not respond consistently to operator input and, as a result, there may be an unexpected water pressure surge to the fire hose.

The risk

An unexpected surge in water pressure to the fire hose can increase the risk of injury to the hose operator or those nearby.

The remedy

Pierce will notify owners, and dealers will update the water pressure governor firmware, free of charge. The recall began on January 5, 2016. Owners may contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723. Pierce's number for this recall is 74B252.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V760000.
