NHTSA campaign 15V723000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp.: Power Train › Axle Assembly

Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 2, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 3. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME) is recalling certain model year 2016 Predator and Severe Service vehicles manufactured May 8, 2015, to October 1, 2015, and equipped with certain drive axles manufactured by Marmon-Herrington. The affected axles are equipped with hex nuts on the flange yoke that may not have been properly tightened.

The risk

If the hex nuts are not tightened to specification, the driveshaft may disconnect from the drive axle, resulting in a loss of propulsion and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

KME will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the hex nuts, tightening them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on November 20, 2015. Owners may contact KME customer service at 1-800-235-3926.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V723000.
