Mack Trucks, Inc.: Power Train › Axle Assembly
Mack Trucks, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 22, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 8. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain model year 2014 Granite (GU) trucks manufactured January 1, 2013, to October 16, 2013, and equipped with certain drive axles manufactured by Marmon-Herrington. The affected axles are equipped with hex nuts on the flange yoke that may not have been properly tightened.
The risk
If the hex nuts are not tightened to specification, the driveshaft may disconnect from the drive axle, resulting in a loss of propulsion and increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Mack will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the hex nut, tightening it to proper torque, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on November 30, 2015. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Mack's number for this recall is SC0397.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V690000.
