Spartan Motors USA: Equipment › Other › Labels

Spartan Motors USA reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 19, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 406. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Spartan Motors USA (Spartan) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Utilimaster Vans manufactured July 11, 2014, to September 22, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with a Tire placard that indicates the wrong cargo capacity information. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

The risk

An incorrect label may result in the vehicle being overloaded which can cause tire failure and increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Utilimaster will notify owners and will send a label with the cargo capacity information corrected, free of charge. The recall began on December 17, 2015. Owners may contact Utilimaster customer service at 1-800-582-3454. Spartan's number for this recall is 15024.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V670000.
