NHTSA campaign 15V664000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Winnebago Industries, Inc: Power Train › Automatic Transmission › Lever and Linkage › Column Shift

Winnebago Industries, Inc reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 16, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 297. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Winnebago Industries, Inc (Winnebago) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Winnebago Brave, Sightseer, Vista and Adventurer motorhomes and Itasca Tribute, Sunova, Sunstar, and Suncruiser motorhomes manufactured from July 13, 2015, through October 6, 2015. The affected vehicles, built on Ford chassis, can be shifted out of 'PARK' without applying the brakes, due to an incorrect shift cable bracket and an improper shift cable adjustment.

The risk

If the vehicle can be shifted into reverse without the brakes being applied, the vehicle may unintentionally move, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Ford will notify owners, and Ford dealers will replace the transmission shift control bracket and adjust the transmission shift cable, free of charge. The recall began on November 12, 2015. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service at 1-641-585-3535 or Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V664000.
