NHTSA campaign 15V642000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Newmar Corporation: Parking Brake

Newmar Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 13, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 86. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2016 Bay Star, Bay Star Sport and Canyon Star motorhomes manufactured July 8, 2015, to September 14, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the parking brake actuator may be out of calibration causing the parking brake system to not properly hold the vehicle even with the parking brake pedal fully depressed. Additionally, the parking brake may not disengage completely when the parking brake pedal is released.

The risk

If the parking brake does not fully engage, the vehicle may unexpectedly roll, increasing the risk of personal injury or a crash. A parking brake that drags may result in a wheel end fire.

The remedy

Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the parking brake foot pedal assembly, free of charge. The recall began on October 22, 2015. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V642000.
