Winnebago Industries, Inc: Electrical System › Wiring

Winnebago Industries, Inc reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 21, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 172. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Winnebago Industries, Inc. (Winnebago) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Winnebago Sightseer and Itasca Sunova motorhomes with a D35G floorplan, manufactured March 19, 2015, to July 15, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the wiring harness behind the panel board may be pinched or damaged when the left rear slideout room is retracted due to insufficient clearance.

The risk

A damaged or pinched wiring harness increases the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Winnebago will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the wiring harness for damage, repairing it as necessary. Additionally, the harness attachment point will be relocated to provide the harness extra clearance. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on November 5, 2015. Owners may contact Winnebago customer service number at 1-641-585-3535.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V581000.
