Vermeer Manufacturing Company: Exterior Lighting
Vermeer Manufacturing Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 16, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 21,401. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Vermeer Manufacturing Company (Vermeer) is recalling certain model year 2008-2016 Vermeer BC1000XL, 2013-2016 BC700XL, 2012-2016 BC900XL, 2009-2016 BC1200XL, 2003-2016 BC1800XL, 2005-2014 BC600XL, 2005-2016 SC802 and 2005-2013 SC602 Brush Chippers and Stump Cutters. These models have LED side markers lights that do not have reflectors built into the lenses, reducing the visibility of the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, " Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
The risk
The absence of reflectors could reduce the ability for others to see the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Vermeer will notify owners, and will supply reflective decals to be installed on the trailer sides, free of charge. The recall began on November 13, 2015. Owners may contact Vermeer customer service at 1-800-829-0051 or by email at [email protected].

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V575000.
