NHTSA campaign 15V516000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Pierce Manufacturing: Power Train › Driveline › Driveshaft

Pierce Manufacturing reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 13, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 191. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Pierce Manufacturing (Pierce) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Pierce Arrow XT, Dash CF, Enforcer, Quantum, and Velocity emergency vehicles manufactured from November 3, 2014, through July 31, 2015. The affected vehicles have a driveshaft that may bend or twist possibly causing it disconnect.

The risk

If the driveshaft disconnects from the vehicle, the vehicle would have a loss of drive, disabling it on the roadway and preventing the vehicle from responding to an emergency. Additionally, portions of the driveshaft could become a road hazard. These scenarios may increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Pierce has notified owners, and dealers will install a stronger driveshaft, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2015. Owners may contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723. Pierce's number for this recall is 74B265.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V516000.
