NHTSA campaign 15V487000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Forest River, Inc.: Power Train › Axle Assembly

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Aug 5, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 23. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc.(Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2015 Palomino PaloMini vehicles manufactured November 14, 2014, to July 23, 2015. The cambers in the axle tubes may have been installed upside down. This can cause the tube to appear bent downward towards the ground, when the bend should be pointing upwards to the unit floor.

The risk

A mispositioned camber may come in contact with a tire, a spindle or other components leading to fracture or failure, and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and reposition any mispositioned cambers, free of charge. The recall began on August 21, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-269-432-3246. Forest River's number for this recall is 400-07282015-0065.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V487000.
