Forest River, Inc.: Equipment › Other › Labels

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 30, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 207. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Sandpiper and Sierra recreational vehicles manufactured October 15, 2013, to July 13, 2015. The affected vehicles may be equipped with Certification labels with an inaccurate gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) No. 567, "Certification."

The risk

Inaccurate weight information can mislead an owner as to the vehicle's weight carrying capacity which could result in vehicle overloading and a crash.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a new set of corrected certification labels, free of charge. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-534-8386. Forest River's number for this recall is 03-07292015-0067.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V480000.
