Vermeer Manufacturing Company: Equipment › Mechanical
Vermeer Manufacturing Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 15, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 481. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Vermeer Manufacturing Company (Vermeer) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 BC900XL brush chippers manufactured January 30, 2012, to July 30, 2015. The flanges that attach the brush chipper discharge chute may crack and fail while the brush chipper is being towed, causing the chute to separate from the chipper.
The risk
If the chute detaches from the chipper, it would become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Vermeer will notify owners, and dealers will relocate the discharge chute rotation clamps and will add an additional clamp, free of charge. The recall began on September 9, 2015. Owners may contact Vermeer customer service at 1-800-829-0051. Vermeer's number for this recall is IK3194.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V447000.
