KTM North America, Inc.: Fuel System, Gasoline › Storage › Tank Assembly
KTM North America, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 10, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 640. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
KTM North America, Inc. (KTM) is recalling all model year 2014 1290 Super Duke R motorcycles manufactured July 1, 2013, to April 30, 2014. The affected motorcycles may leak fuel from the threaded inserts at the rear of the gas tank.
The risk
A fuel leak from the threaded inserts, in the presence of an ignition source, may increase the risk of a fire.
The remedy
KTM will notify owners, and dealers will seal the threaded inserts to prevent future fuel leaks. If the motorcycle shows evidence of an existing fuel leak at the threaded insert, the gas tank will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 11, 2015. Owners may contact KTM customer service at 1-888-985-6090. KTM's number for this recall is TB1507.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V441000.
