Navistar, Inc.: Engine and Engine Cooling › Engine
Navistar, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 8, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 63. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 International TranStar vehicles manufactured April 10, 2012, to December 12, 2014. Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.
The risk
If engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, there is an increased risk of a fire.
The remedy
Cummins will notify owners on behalf of Navistar, and dealers will secure the ends of the 90-degree elbow. In addition, the electronic control module (ECM) will be reprogrammed with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 16, 2015. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825, or Cummins customer service at 1-800-343-7357.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V438000.
