NHTSA campaign 15V412000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Oshkosh Corporation: Power Train › Automatic Transmission › Torque Converter

Oshkosh Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 30, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 24. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Oshkosh Corporation (Oshkosh) is recalling certain model year 2015 S-Series Front Discharge concrete mixer glider trucks manufactured February 10, 2015, to March 20, 2015. The affected vehicles have Allison HD4500 transmissions that were remanufactured by Valley Truck Parts that may be coated with a thick layer of paint on the torque converter to adaptation kit mounting surface which can soften during vehicle operation. This may result in the mounting bolts loosening.

The risk

If the mounting bolts loosen, the bolts on the torque converter bolt flange may shear, resulting in a sudden loss of drive power, and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Oshkosh has notified owners, and Valley Truck Parts will remove the paint from the mating surface of the torque converter, and replace the bolts, free of charge. The recall began on May 8, 2015. Owners may contact Oshkosh customer service at 1-888-686-7278.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V412000.
