Vermeer Manufacturing Company: Trailer Hitches
Vermeer Manufacturing Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 9, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 64. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Vermeer Manufacturing Company (Vermeer) is recalling certain model year 2015 TLR30HD trailers manufactured April 21, 2015, to May 15, 2015, and 2015 TLR30LD trailers manufactured April 17, 2015, and May 14, 2015. The affected trailers may have an incorrectly installed safety chain.
The risk
If the trailer hitch becomes unhooked from the tow vehicle, the safety chain will not prevent the trailer from completely separating from the tow vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Vermeer will notify owners and dealers will install a field repair kit. The recall began on July 14, 2015. Owners may contact Vermeer customer service at 1-800-829-0051 or by email at [email protected]. Vermeer's number for this campaign is IK3175.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V355000.
