NHTSA campaign 15V352000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Fontaine Trailer Company: Structure

Fontaine Trailer Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 8, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 159. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Fontaine Trailer Company (Fontaine) is recalling certain model year 2016 Revolution flat deck platform and step deck platform semi-trailers manufactured April 20, 2015, to May 13, 2015. In the affected trailers, the hardened washers used in the bolted connections that secure the upper coupler, landing gear and suspensions to the trailer sub-frame may crack.

The risk

Failure of the washers can cause the bolted joints to loosen, causing detachment of the trailer's structural components, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Fontaine will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected washers as well as the nuts and bolts used in the connections, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Fontaine customer service at 1-205-485-1300.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V352000.
