NHTSA campaign 15V280000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Autocar, LLC: Engine and Engine Cooling › Engine

Autocar, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on May 13, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 5,245. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Autocar, LLC (Autocar) is recalling certain model year 2008-2016 Xpeditor vehicles manufactured July 30, 2007, to April 29, 2015. Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.

The risk

If the engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, it can increase the risk of a vehicle fire.

The remedy

Cummins will notify owners on behalf of Autocar, and Cummins service centers will administer the repairs which include securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module (ECM) with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 16, 2015. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-765-489-5499 or Cummins Inc. at 1-800-343-7357. Autocar's number for this recall is ACX-1503.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V280000.
