Ducati North America: Suspension › Rear › Shock Absorber
Ducati North America reported this defect to federal regulators on May 8, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 549. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain model year 2014 1199 Panigale S version, 1199 Superleggera and 1199 Panigale R version motorcycles. The affected motorcycles may have been built with an improperly manufactured rear shock absorber. The nut on the damper rod for these shock absorbers may loosen, resulting in a loss of damping and the possible disassembling of the shock.
The risk
If the damper rod nut loosens, shock absorber performance would be affected, possibly causing a loss of vehicle control and increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will either replace the rear shock assembly or send the shock to the supplier's repair center to be remedied, free of charge. The recall began on June 29, 2015. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696. Ducati's number for this recall is RCL-15-002.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V268000.
