Forest River, Inc.: Structure › Body › Roof and Pillars

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 30, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 378. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain model year 2015 Coachmen Prism recreational vehicles manufactured from July 1, 2014, through October 14, 2014 and built on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. In the affected vehicles, the abutting wedge, a component attached to the door jamb to make opening the door easier after a severe frontal impact, may have been installed incorrectly.

The risk

If a vehicle that has an incorrectly installed abutting wedge is involved in a severe frontal crash, greater force may be necessary to open the doors, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Sprinter will notify owners, and Sprinter dealers will check the installation of the abutting wedge, correcting it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began in March 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-0437. Forest River's number for this recall is 15V-082.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V187000.
