NHTSA campaign 15V174000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Pierce Manufacturing: Suspension › Rear › Springs › Leaf Spring Assembly

Pierce Manufacturing reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 25, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 8. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Pierce Manufacturing (Pierce) is recalling certain model year 2015 Saber, Enforcer, Impel, and Velocity vehicles manufactured December 4, 2014, to March 23, 2015. The rear axle cast iron leaf spring spacer block may crack and fracture.

The risk

If the leaf spring spacer block fractures, the pieces may become a road hazard. If the entire spacer block separates from the vehicle, the alignment of the rear axle may suddenly shift. Either condition could increase the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Pierce will notify owners, and dealers will replace the cast iron spring spacer block with a machined steel spring spacer block, free of charge. The recall began on March 23, 2015. Owners may contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V174000.
