NHTSA campaign 15V140000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Kalmar Solutions, LLC: Electrical System › 12v/24v/48v Battery › Cables

Kalmar Solutions, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 11, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 311. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Kalmar Solutions, LLC (Kalmar) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Ottawa terminal tractors manufactured June 20, 2014, to November 14, 2014. Due to improper routing, the battery ground cable may detach from its mounting on the transmission, and as a result, excessive current may travel through the vehicle's engine harness, melting it.

The risk

Melting of the engine harness may cause an electrical short and increase the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Kalmar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the battery cable and correct its routing to eliminate stress on its attachment point, free of charge. The recall began on March 26, 2015. Owners may contact Kalmar customer service at 1-785-229-6327.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V140000.
