NHTSA campaign 15V126000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Forest River, Inc.: Equipment › Other › Labels

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Mar 3, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 142. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2015 XLR XLF375AMP, XLR XLF380AMP, XLR XLF386X12HP, XLR XLF395AMP, XLR XLF415AMP, and XLR XLF425AMP recreational vehicles and toy haulers. The vehicles may be equipped with the incorrect hitch assembly rating information. The correct gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is 18,000lbs, however the Certification label states that the GVWR rating is 21,000lbs. As such, these trailers fail to conform to Part 567, "Certification."

The risk

If the trailer is loaded based on the incorrect GVWR, the hitch assembly would be overloaded which may result in hitch assembly failure, causing a loss of control and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners and will send corrected Certification, Tire Information, and Cargo Carrying Capacity labels, free of charge. The recall began on March 25, 2015. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-206-7600. Forest River's number for this recall is 45-03022015.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V126000.
