Daimler Trucks North America LLC: Fuel System, Other › Delivery › Hoses, Lines/Piping, and Fittings

Daimler Trucks North America LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 23, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 14. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Freightliner Cascadia trucks manufactured November 19, 2013, to July 14, 2014, and equipped with certain model Side-Mount compressed natural gas (CNG) Fuel Systems, Part No. 23736011, manufactured August 1, 2013, to August 21, 2014 and Motion Industries T1700-06 flexible fuel hoses. The stainless steel braid hose reinforcement may corrode prematurely near the fitting crimp inside the slave tank enclosure.

The risk

If the corrosion progresses and goes undetected, the hose could begin to leak CNG, increasing the risk of a fire in the presence of an ignition source.

The remedy

DTNA will notify owners and dealers will replace the defective hose, free of charge. The recall began on April 1, 2015. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-678.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V105000.
