NHTSA campaign 15V101000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Altec Industries Inc.: Electrical System

Altec Industries Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 23, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 5,142. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Altec Industries Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Digger Derrick and Aerial Device vehicles manufactured October 1, 2012, to June 30, 2014, and mounted on Freightliner chassis. In the event of a short circuit condition, the 30 amp breaker to the trailer relay module may react too slowly to prevent the module from overheating.

The risk

If the module overheats, there is an increased risk of a fire.

The remedy

Altec will notify owners, and dealers will replace the 30 amp circuit breaker with a 20 amp one, free of charge. The recall began on April 17, 2015. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-800-860-0183. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 612.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V101000.
