NHTSA campaign 15V061000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Newmar Corporation: Service Brakes, Air › Supply › Quick Release Valve

Newmar Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 3, 2015 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 98. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Newmar Corporation (Newmar) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Newmar King Aire, and Essex vehicles manufactured December 9, 2013, to December 16, 2014, equipped with certain Wabco Quick Release Valves with Double Check. In the affected valves, the rubber diaphragm may be damaged by sharp edges on the valve seat ribs, reducing the available air pressure in the air tanks.

The risk

The reduced air pressure levels may reduce braking performance and/or the parking brakes could reapply, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

Newmar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the valve, free of charge. The recall began on February 26, 2015. Owners may contact Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 15V061000.
