NHTSA campaign 14V776000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Doubletree RV: Latches/Locks/Linkages › Doors › Latch

Doubletree RV reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 5, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 301. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Doubletree RV (Doubletree) is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 Select Suite, Tradition, Mobile Suite, and Elite Suite recreational trailers manufactured January 1, 2006, to April 25, 2013 and equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. It may be possible to remove the key from the lock in a way that potentially jams the deadbolt.

The risk

If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. A person inside the travel trailer at the time will then be locked in and be unable to exit the vehicle without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Doubletree will notify owners, and dealers will replace the cylinders, free of charge. The recall began December 29, 2014. Owners may contact Fastec directly at www.fastecindustrial.com or by calling toll free 1-800-837-2505, or Doubletree customer service at 1-260-562-1075.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V776000.
