Mack Trucks, Inc.: Engine

Mack Trucks, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 20, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 40. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Mack Trucks, Inc. (Mack) is recalling certain model year 2015 CXU and GU trucks manufactured January 1, 2014, to August 20, 2014. The affected vehicles contain an incorrectly wired Automatic Shut-down Protection System, which may not operate as expected.

The risk

If the Automatic Shut-down Protection System does not operate as expected, the operator may be unable to control the increase in the engines rpms, increasing the risk of engine failure and vehicle fire.

The remedy

Mack will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the system for correct operation and repair if necessary, free of charge. The recall began on January 16, 2015. Owners may contact Mack customer service at 1-610-709-2131. Mack's number for this recall is SC0386.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V738000.
