NHTSA campaign 14V726000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Wabash National Corporation: Parking Brake › Driveline › Air › Chamber

Wabash National Corporation reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 12, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 6,792. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Wabash National Corporation (Wabash) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Van Trailers manufactured December 17, 2013, to January 23, 2015, equipped with a Haldex air braking system. The affected brake actuators may have been manufactured with an incomplete attachment of the internal rubber diaphragm to the actuation mechanism. This could cause dragging or overheated brakes.

The risk

If the brakes begin to drag and overheat it can cause the brakes to smoke, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire and crash.

The remedy

Wabash will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake actuator, free of charge. The recall began on June 18, 2015. Owners may contact Wabash customer service at 1-765-771-5300.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V726000.
