NHTSA campaign 14V716000 · Part 573 safety recall report

PACCAR Incorporated: Parking Brake

PACCAR Incorporated reported this defect to federal regulators on Nov 7, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 101. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2015 Kenworth K270 and K370 trucks manufactured February 4, 2014, to October 10, 2014, and 2014-2015 Peterbilt 220 trucks manufactured December 5, 2013, to October 10, 2014, equipped with certain Wabco Quick Release Valves with Double Check manufactured February 6, 2013, to April 19, 2014. The affected vehicles may have been produced with a defective valve seat installed.

The risk

Improper seating can result in the valves improperly adjusting air pressure levels, thereby reducing the braking performance of the vehicles and increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will and replace the valves, free of charge. The recall began on December 30, 2014. Owners may contact PACCAR customer service at 1-425-468-7400.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V716000.
