Daimler Trucks North America LLC: Power Train › Clutch Assembly

Daimler Trucks North America LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 21, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 391. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2015 Freightliner Business Class M2 trucks manufactured May 27, 2014, to September 25, 2014, and equipped with certain models of Eaton Fuller 365mm clutches. Due to an incorrect clutch-release bearing component, the affected clutches may not disengage as needed.

The risk

The loss of clutch function could cause unintended motion or extend stopping distance, increasing the risk of vehicle crash.

The remedy

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the clutches, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 8, 2014. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-670.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V659000.
