NHTSA campaign 14V559000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Lion Bus Inc.: Structure

Lion Bus Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 12, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 9. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Lion Bus Inc. (Lion Bus) is recalling certain model year 2013 and 2014 360 school buses manufactured August 30, 2012, to December 14, 2012. Adhesive may not have been applied properly to the joint between the metal ceiling panels. As such, the buses may not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 221, "School Bus Body Joint Strength."

The risk

In the event of a crash, the metal ceiling joint may split apart, increasing the risk of injury to the passengers.

The remedy

Lion Bus will notify owners, and dealers will install rivets to the two ceiling joints to add strength to the joints, free of charge. The recall began in November 2014. Owners may contact Lion Bus customer service at 1-855-546-6706.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V559000.
