Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA: Exterior Lighting › Headlights
Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA reported this defect to federal regulators on Sep 10, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 5,300. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA (Yamaha) is recalling certain model year 2014 Yamaha FZ09 motorcycles manufactured August 1, 2013, to August 29, 2014. The affected motorcycles may have a headlight harness that is too short and when the handlebars are turned fully to the left or right the harness may break near the coupler or coupler may disconnect from the headlight bulb.
The risk
If the harness breaks or the coupler detaches from the headlight, the headlight will go out, reducing the rider's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Yamaha will notify owners, and dealers will install a sub-harness to lengthen the headlight harness, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on September 22, 2014. Owners may contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V550000.
