NHTSA campaign 14V469000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Schwarze Industries, Inc.: Engine and Engine Cooling

Schwarze Industries, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 31, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 5. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Schwarze Industries, Inc. (Schwarze) is recalling certain model year 2009 Schwarze M6000SE CNG-powered street sweepers, equipped with certain Cummins Westport Model ISL G engines. Condensation in the intake manifold may freeze during cold weather conditions and interfere with the proper operation of the intake manifold pressure sensor.

The risk

The improper operation of the sensor could induce elevated exhaust temperatures or flames from the exhaust pipe, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire or burn injury to a person near the exhaust pipe.

The remedy

Schwarze has notified the affected owners, and dealers will upload a new ECM calibration, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact Schwarze customer service at 1-800-879-7933. Owners may also contact Cummins Inc. at 1-800-343-7357.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V469000.
