NHTSA campaign 14V439000 · Part 573 safety recall report

PACCAR Incorporated: Electrical System

PACCAR Incorporated reported this defect to federal regulators on Jul 21, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 1,966. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

PACCAR Inc. (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Kenworth K300 and Peterbilt 210, 220, and 320 chassis manufactured March 14, 2012 to July 14, 2014. The affected vehicles may have loose fitting electrical connectors on the power distribution module which may cause the engine to shut off.

The risk

An unexpected engine shut down increases the risk of a crash.

The remedy

PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will install nylon tie straps to hold the connectors in place until the permanent remedy, a connection position device, becomes available. Both remedies will be provided free of charge. The recall began January 29, 2015. For more information, Peterbilt owners may call 1-940-591-4220 and Kenworth owners may call 1-425-828-5000. PACCAR's number for this recall is 14KWH (Kenworth), and 714-G (Peterbilt).

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V439000.
