NHTSA campaign 14V424000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Viking RV, LLC.: Equipment › Other › Labels

Viking RV, LLC. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 13, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 261. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Viking RV, LLC (Viking) is recalling certain model year 2014 Viking Epic 1906, Epic 1906ST, Epic 2107, Epic CWS8, and Epic CWS10, and Coachmen Sport 106, Sport 106ST, and Sport 107 recreational trailers, manufactured November 20, 2013, through May 28, 2014. The affected vehicles incorrectly list the recommended tire air pressure as 65PSI instead of 60PSI on the Federal Certification Tag and Tire Information Tag. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 119, "New Pneumatic Tires for Vehicles Other Than Passenger Cars."

The risk

If the tires are filled to the air pressure indicated on the current label, there is an increased risk of a tire blowout which may result in a crash.

The remedy

Viking has notified owners, and has mailed owners corrected labels, free of charge. The recall began in June 2014. Owners may contact Viking customer service at 1-800-368-2829.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V424000.
