NHTSA campaign 14V329000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Motor Coach Industries: Interior Lighting

Motor Coach Industries reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 16, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 312. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Motor Coach Industries, Inc (MCI) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 D4000 and D4500 and 2010 D4505 motor coaches equipped with LED lights interior lights powered by either a Vansco or IO multiplex system. Due to the excessive power draw of the LED lights, heat may build up at the fuse block and connector, causing the components to melt.

The risk

If this occurs, the surrounding material may be damaged and will burn, increasing the risk of a fire.

The remedy

MCI will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuse holders, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-847-285-2090. MCI's number for this recall is 388B. Note: This recall supersedes recall 12V-250. Motorcoaches that were remedied under the previous campaign need to be remedied under this campaign as well.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V329000.
