NHTSA campaign 14V305000 · Part 573 safety recall report

KTM North America, Inc.: Service Brakes, Hydraulic › Pedals and Linkages

KTM North America, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 5, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 649. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

KTM North America, Inc. (KTM) is recalling certain model year 2014 690 Enduro R motorcycles manufactured October 2013 to April 2014. In the affected motorcycles, the rear brake pedal mounting bolt may loosen, allowing the rear brake pedal to detach from the motorcycle.

The risk

If the rear brake pedal detaches, the rider would only have the front brake to slow or stop the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.

The remedy

KTM will notify owners, and dealers will install and properly torque, a washer and new rear brake pedal mounting bolt with threadlocker, free of charge. The recall began in July 2014. Owners may contact KTM customer service at 1-888-985-6090.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V305000.
