Blue Bird Body Company: Fuel System, Other › Delivery › Hoses, Lines/Piping, and Fittings

Blue Bird Body Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 4, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 388. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Blue Bird Body Company (Blue Bird) is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Vision school buses manufactured January 10, 2012, to April 24, 2013, and equipped with a Roush CleanTech LLC propane fuel system. Due to a reaction between the different metals, the affected vehicles may develop a propane leak where the aluminum fuel line fitting contacts the brass supply valve housing.

The risk

A propane leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Blue Bird will notify owners, and dealers will replace the aluminum fuel line fitting with a new stainless steel fitting, free of charge. The recall began on July 3, 2014. Owners may contact Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242. Blue Bird's number for this recall is R14XD.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V297000.
