NHTSA campaign 14V291000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC: Service Brakes, Hydraulic › Fluid

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC reported this defect to federal regulators on Jun 2, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 68. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Jaguar) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 XF vehicles manufactured October 18, 2012, through February 25, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the right-hand rear brake pipe may wear against a bracket located on the rear sub frame. This condition may cause the brake pipe to wear through and leak brake fluid.

The risk

Leaking brake fluid can lengthen braking distance and increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

The remedy

Jaguar will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the rear brake pipe for signs of wear, maninpulate the bracket on the rear sub frame, and inspect and replace the rear brake pipes if wear is visible, free of charge. The recall began on August 1, 2014. Owners may contact Jaguar customer service at 1-855-524-8278. Jaguar's number for this recall is J036.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V291000.
