Harley-Davidson Motor Company: Fuel System, Gasoline
Harley-Davidson Motor Company reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 8, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 9,102. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.
The defect
Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 FXSB and FXSBSE motorcycles manufactured March 20, 2012, through March 10, 2014. Suspension variances may affect the gas tank mounting angle causing the fuel level sensor to read inaccurately.
The risk
The gauge inaccuracy may cause the motorcycle to run out of fuel unexpectedly, possibly even before the Low Fuel Warning lamp illuminates. The lack of fuel would cause the motorcycle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy
Harley-Davidson has notified owners, and dealers will update the software to recalibrate the fuel level sensor signal, free of charge. The recall began April 28, 2014. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson at 1-800-258-2464.

What this page is, and what to do next
A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.
This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V185000.
