Transportation Collaborative, Inc.: Seats

Transportation Collaborative, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Apr 8, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 843. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Transportation Collaborative, Inc. (TCI) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Trans Tech Bus school buses manufactured January 10, 2011, through March 10, 2014, and equipped with 39" seats with or without 3-point seat belts. For the full list of the affected models, click on "Associated Documents" and then please click on "Associated Documents" and then "Noncompliance Notice(Part 573)." The affected buses have seats that may not remain properly anchored to the floor. As such, these vehicles do not conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems," and number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

The risk

In the event of a crash, if the seat does not remain anchored to the floor, the seat occupant has an increased risk of injury.

The remedy

TCI will notify owners and dealers will install additional mounts to secure the seats to the floor, free of charge. The recall began on April 23, 2014. Owners may contact TCI at 1-845-988-2333.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V180000.
