NHTSA campaign 14V077000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Forest River, Inc.: Equipment › Other › Labels

Forest River, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 27, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 49. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2014 Wildcat recreational vehicles manufactured October 25, 2013, through January 24, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the Federal Certification Tag incorrectly states that the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) is 15,500 pounds instead of the correct GVWR of 12,330 pounds. As such, the vehicle does not conform to Part 567, "Certification."

The risk

As a result, the trailer may be loaded beyond the specified weight rating which may cause a tire or suspension failure leading to poor vehicle handling and an increased risk of a crash.

The remedy

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will install a new certification label with the correct information. The recall began on April 9, 2014. Customers may contact Forest River Wildcat Customer Service and Warranty Department at 1-574-206-7600.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V077000.
