NHTSA campaign 14V048000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Elkhart Coach: Electrical System

Elkhart Coach reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 10, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 400. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Elkhart Coach (Elkhart) is recalling certain model year 2009-2010 ECII transit buses manufactured August 1, 2009, through March 31, 2010, and equipped with A&M Systems-brand electric door actuators. Voltage spikes may damage electrical components and electrical circuits within the actuator, causing the circuit board to develop high resistance.

The risk

High resistance may cause the circuit board to overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.

The remedy

Elkhart will notify owners, and dealers will replace any affected circuit board, free of charge. The recall began on March 24, 2014. Owners may contact Elkhart at 1-574-522-0246.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V048000.
