NHTSA campaign 14V039000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Nomad Global Communications Solutions: Latches/Locks/Linkages

Nomad Global Communications Solutions reported this defect to federal regulators on Feb 5, 2014 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 4. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Nomad Global Communication Solutions (Nomad) is recalling certain model year 2013 Dispatch 14A, 20SS0 and 16AS0 vehicles manufactured July 2013 through October, 2013 and equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. It may be possible to remove the key from the lock in a way that potentially jams the deadbolt.

The risk

If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. A person inside the trailer at the time will then be locked in and be unable to exit the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Nomad will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began in March 2014. Owners may contact Nomad at 1-406-755-1721 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 14V039000.
