NHTSA campaign 13V637000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Marathon Homes Corp: Latches/Locks/Linkages

Marathon Homes Corp reported this defect to federal regulators on Dec 9, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 54. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Marathon Homes Corporation (Marathon) is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 towable and fifth wheel travel trailers manufactured January 1, 2006, through April 25, 2013 and equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. It may be possible to remove the key from the lock in a way that potentially jams the deadbolt.

The risk

If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. A person inside the travel trailer at the time will then be locked in and be unable to exit the vehicle without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Marathon will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on January 23, 2014. Owners may contact Marathon Homes at 1-574-294-6441 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V637000.
