NHTSA campaign 13V563000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Exiss Aluminum Trailers, Inc.: Latches/Locks/Linkages

Exiss Aluminum Trailers, Inc. reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 23, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 3,558. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Exiss/Sooner, HLG is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 Exiss and Sooner travel trailers manufactured January 1, 2006, through April 25, 2013 and equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. It may be possible to remove the key from the lock in a way that potentially jams the deadbolt.

The risk

If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. A person inside the travel trailer at the time will then be locked in and be unable to exit the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

Exiss/Sooner will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on December 17, 2013. Owners may contact Exiss/Sooner at 1-405-262-6471 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V563000.
