NHTSA campaign 13V539000 · Part 573 safety recall report

Daimler Trucks North America: Seats

Daimler Trucks North America reported this defect to federal regulators on Oct 30, 2013 and put the number of vehicles at risk at 73. The repair is free for as long as the recall stands.

The defect

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2014 Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses manufactured July 9, 2013, through September 12, 2013. The rivets used to attach the seat track to the floor may not have been properly seated when installed.

The risk

In the event of a crash, any improperly seated seat track rivets may prevent the seat belt anchorages from performing as designed, increasing the risk of injury.

The remedy

DTNA will notify owners and dealers will reinforce the seat track mounting as required, free of charge. The recall began on December 20, 2013. Owners may contact DTNA at 1-503-745-5219. DTNA's recall number is FL-651.

What this page is, and what to do next

A recall is not an opinion. It is a Part 573 report a manufacturer is required by federal law to file once it decides a defect poses an unreasonable risk to safety, and it commits them to repairing the vehicle at no cost to the owner. The three passages above are the manufacturer’s own wording as published by NHTSA.

This page describes the campaign. It cannot tell you whether one particular car has already been through the shop — that is tracked by VIN, and only the manufacturer knows it. Check yours at nhtsa.gov/recalls or with a franchised dealer, quoting campaign number 13V539000.
